“If I remain in this bloody land I will not live long, I can’t remain where I must hear slave chains continually, and where I must encounter the insults of their enslavers.”

Step into the story of Seabreeze, one of North Carolina’s historic Black-owned beach communities, during an unforgettable evening where history, culture, and cuisine come together.
Hosted by WilmingtoNColor Heritage Tours in partnership with Voyce Bistro, Saltwater Stories: Seabreeze is an immersive dining and storytelling experience featuring a thoughtfully curated dinner by Chef Keith Rhodes a two-time James Beard Award nominee, Bravo’s Top Chef competitor, and one of North Carolina’s most celebrated culinary innovators. Chef Rhodes is the founder of the acclaimed Catch restaurant and the visionary behind Voyce Bistro, where his signature coastal cuisine is inspired by the rich flavors and traditions of Eastern North Carolina.
Set on historic Afro-Indigenous land still owned by descendants today, guests will enjoy an intimate evening of authentic local history, exceptional cuisine, and powerful storytelling that brings the rich legacy of Seabreeze and Freeman Beach and the Freeman family to life, stories rarely shared outside the families who have preserved them for generations.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a foodie, or simply looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, Saltwater Stories is more than a dinner, it’s a seat at the table of history.
